Over the past few weeks I’ve had the chance to get to know Rochester native John Exley. He studies interdisciplinary engineering at Clarkson University, has traveled to Signapore for a semester abroad, is currently a marketing intern with the startup Syncables and will begin another internship at the startup Hashable next month. John is best known to me for always being on the hustle, which aptly describes his work mentality.
When UVconnect invited Brad Feld to visit Upstate this past February, John had the opportunity to catch Feld’s talk, “TechStars Lessons on Accelerating Your Startup,” at the Rochester Institute of Technology. John captured the portion on the talk where Feld shares his story about what it was like to work with the Founders of Occipital, a startup that engineers products around machine vision and augmented reality, back in the summer of 2008 at TechStars in Boulder, CO. The take home message is to 1.) avoid building elaborate technologies and 2.) avoid waiting until the technology is perfect to ship the product.
